CEO And Founding Partner, GOLD

Currently, Marta Segura is the CEO and Founder Partner for GOLD, Grassroots Organizational Leadership and Development, otherwise known as the Grassroots Diva, a community relations and public affairs firm which she started in 2003. She has also been appointed as City Planning Commissioner for the City of Los Angeles by Mayor Eric Garcetii. Previously she served as the District Director for the Council President Eric Garcetti, in District 13, where she spearheaded the field operations to ensure constituents had access to engage in civic life and to create improvements in their communities. As District Director, Segura also provided high impact services to constituents and stakeholders to enhance their quality of life in Council District 13 through our excellent field staff.

Prior to joining Council President Garcetti’s office, Marta founded GOLD the firm mentioned above, which focused on leadership and organizational development for small and medium-sized non-profit organizations in Southern California. A veteran of the non-profit sector, she also played a role in philanthropy as a program officer for the Flintridge Foundation and the California Endowment. Her first position in the non-profit sector was as a Program Director at the UCLA Center for Labor Research and Education. Later she was hired as the Associate Director for Communities for a Better Environment, where she spearheaded campaign development and fundraising efforts. Marta cares deeply about engaging communities in civic life, the environment, and enhancing the quality of life and health for all. She brings more than 15 years of management and leadership experience in both the governmental and nonprofit sectors.

Marta also serves on the board of nonprofit organizations and also plays a key role in her 9 year old son’s civic engagement and his role as a Youth advisory board member to the Children’s Nature Institute.

Marta holds a Master of Public Health from UCLA’s School of Public Health and a B.A. in Environmental Studies from the University of California Santa Barbara. She was born and raised in San Jose, California, and has lived in Los Angeles since 1988.
