E.J. Barone Professor of Economics and Health Policy, Carnegie Mellon University; Chair of the Board, Health Care Cost Institute
Martin Gaynor is the E.J. Barone Professor of Economics and Health Policy at the Heinz College of Carnegie Mellon University and chair of the governing board of the Health Care Cost Institute, an independent nonprofit dedicated to advancing knowledge about the determinants of US health care costs.
Gaynor’s research focuses on the economics of health care markets and health care organizations, including antitrust, regulation, and health reform. He advises the governments of the US, UK, and the Netherlands on competition in health care markets. He has also won a number of awards for his research, including the 2007 Victor R. Fuchs Award, the 2005 National Institute for Health Care Management Foundation Health Care Research Award, the 1996 Kenneth J. Arrow Award, and a Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Investigator Award in Health Policy Research.
