Professor of Communications Management, Founder and Director of Visual Literacy, & Author of "Meet Up!: Better Meetings Through Nudging"

Martin J. Eppler is a Swiss communication and management scholar renowned for his expertise in knowledge management, information overload, and knowledge visualization. He serves as a Professor of Media and Communication Management at the University of St. Gallen, Switzerland, where he also directs the Institute for Media and Communication Management. He is also the founder and director of Visual Literacy, an e-learning site focused on developing visual literacy skills.

Dr. Eppler completed his master's in Management at the University of St. Gallen and furthered his studies at Boston University and ESCP Europe. He earned his PhD in Management from the University of Geneva. Throughout his academic career, Dr. Eppler has held visiting professorships at institutions such as Georgia Tech, Simon Fraser University (Canada), the Central University of Finance and Economics in Beijing, Aalto University (Finland), and the Universidad del PacĂ­fico Graduate School (Peru). He has also served as a Senior Visiting Fellow at the University of Cambridge.

Dr. Eppler has quthored 25 books and over 200 scientific articles on topics including visualization, management, analytics and creativity. His book, "Meet Up!," received the getAbstract International Book Award in 2018. He has won multiple awards for his visualization research and teaching and he is the inventor of several visualization techniques, software packages, and design methods.

Beyond academia, Dr. Eppler has consulted for organizations such as the United Nations, the European Central Bank, Philips, UBS, IATA, KPMG, Swiss Re, and Daimler. His 2024 TED Talk, "Want to give a great presentation? Use ugly sketches," discussed the value of simple visualizations in enhancing communication and collaboration.
