Martin Redrado        

Former Governor, Central Bank of Argentina, Chairman, Americas Committee BIS

The former Governor of the Central Bank of Argentina, Martín Redrado is now Chairman of the Americas Committee of the Bank for International Settlements (BIS).

In 1994, Redrado founded the Fundación Capital, an institution focused on economic research and public policy design, where he was Chief Economist until 2001. A Harvard University MA in Public Administration graduate, he specialized in finance and international economy. Redrado has authored several influential works, including "Cómo Sobrevivir a la Globalización" (How to Survive Globalization) and "Exportar para Crecer" (Exports for Growth).

While pursuing his private sector career, Redrado was frequently invited by the government to serve in various capacities. In 1991, he was appointed President of the National Securities Commission in Argentina, where he notably designed a new regulatory framework for the Argentine capital market. In 1992, he was elected Chairman of the International Organization of Securities Commissions’ (IOSCO) Emerging Market Committee. Redrado's commitment to public service continued as he served as Secretary of Trade and International Economic Relations from January 2002 to September 2004.

Redrado began his professional career in 1985 as a member of Jeffrey Sachs’ team, implementing the Bolivian stabilization program. He later joined Salomon Brothers in the United States and London, providing advisory services during major privatizations and placements including British Airways, British Gas, and Compagnie Financière de Suez. He also became Managing Director at Security Pacific Bank, where he directed the Employee Stock Ownership Program for ENERSIS (Chile) and facilitated the placement of major Mexican private companies.
