Maru Mora-Villalpando is a community organizer with NWDC Resistance, a grassroots group working to end the detention of immigrants and stop all deportations. Maru also is a founding member of MiJente, a national political home for Latinx communities across the U.S.

She is a single mother who has been targeted by ICE and put on deportation proceedings due to her work bringing to light the inhumane conditions at the Northwest Detention Center in Tacoma, Wash. Maru is a regular CBNR contributor on immigration.

Government drops deportation case against Washington state immigration activist
In a sign of changing immigration policies under President Joe Biden, the government has dropped a deportation case against prominent activist Maru Mora Villalpando and granted her lawful permanent residency.
