Global Health Innovator & Health Equity Warrior; President & CEO at Vital Strategies

Dr. Mary-Ann Etiebet is a global health innovator with over two decades of experience working across public and private sectors to improve health care outcomes for underserved populations. On September 16, 2024, she assumed the role of President and CEO at Vital Strategies, an organization that believes every person should be protected by an equitable and effective public health system and partners with governments, communities, and organizations around the world to reimagine public health. More than 3.3 billion people around the world are covered by public health policies that Vital Strategies helped achieve.

Dr. Etiebet previously served as Associate Vice President of Health Equity & Partnerships at MSD (Merck in the USA and Canada), where she successfully spearheaded the development and implementation of the company’s first enterprise-wide health equity strategy. Her leadership was instrumental in expanding access to healthcare and advancing MSD’s innovative portfolio of medicines and vaccines in low- and middle-income countries.

She previously served as the Lead and Executive Director of MSD for Mothers, a $650 million global health initiative that has increased access to quality maternal health care for more than 20 million women in over 65 countries. She is a member of the Center for Global Development Board of Directors, the Board of Trustees of Vital Strategies, and the Advisory Committee for the Pozen-Commonwealth Fund Fellowship in Health Equity Leadership at Yale University. She has also served as the private sector representative on the board of the World Health Organization- hosted Partnership for Maternal, Newborn & Child Health and the Investors Group of the World Bank’s Global Financing Facility.

Dr. Etiebet holds an MD and MBA from Yale University. She completed her residency in Internal Medicine at New York-Presbyterian Weill Cornell and fellowship at New York-Presbyterian Columbia University Medical Center, becoming Board Certified in both Internal Medicine and Infectious Diseases.
