Matt Blashaw

Licensed Contractor & Realtor; Host of HGTV and DIY Network's "Yard Crashers"; Founder of Build For Love Foundation

Licensed contractor Matt Blashaw is everything you want in a versatile handyman and then some. His home improvement company once used the slogan “One Call Fixes It All” and Matt made a point of always delivering on that promise. A native of Orange County, Calif., Matt spent his teen years working at his father’s lumberyard before graduating from Chapman University. He then moved on to a variety of jobs in the construction and entertainment industries. A stint with the technical services group at Disney taught him about show effects and electrical installation. Today, when he’s not sharing his expertise with DIY Network viewers, Matt works as a Realtor and develops and builds homes in Orange County. Matt takes a fearless approach to home remodeling and says he’s never afraid to make mistakes. After all, that’s often when he learns the most. If you’re thinking about taking on a do-it-yourself project, take his advice and just go for it. Matt hosts HGTV’s “Professional Grade” in addition to “DIY Network’s Money Hunters,” “Deconstruction” and “Project Xtreme.”

The son of an engineer and a home builder, construction is in Matt Blashaw’s blood. The Orange County, California native began his building career at a very young age in his dad’s lumberyard. He dove into fix-it projects around his family’s home, and worked on everything from plumbing and electrical. He even constructed giant skateboard ramps in his backyard. In high school, he took his skills to the stage and built sets for the musical theatre productions. Matt’s love for construction and for the arts led him to pursue his B.F.A. Degree in film and television production from Chapman University. While there, he also achieved his department’s highest honor, the filmmaker of the year award.

Blatshaw got his contractor’s license and began working as a self-employed general contractor, specializing in remodeling homes. That led to a deep understanding of real estate. He felt inspired to sell homes, and became a licensed Realtor for Century 21. In 2006, Matt entered a television contest for DIY Network’s "Stud Finder," a search for America’s next top handyman. Though Matt did not win (he was runner-up), the exposure led to a small role on an HGTV show and an audition to be the host of DIY Network’s new show, "Deconstruction."

He landed the spot on what would become a very successful show, and has been a host for the DIY Network ever since. He has hosted several series for DIY Network and HGTV including "Project Xtreme," "Money Hunters," "Blog Cabin" and "Professional Grade" and specials such as "Cool Tools Builders Show," "Stud Finder 2009," HGTV's "Rose Parade" coverage and "Worst Kitchen In America." He has appeared as an expert guest on The Today Show on NBC, CNN’s Newsroom, CNBC’s Squawk Box and multiple Fox News affiliates. He is also a recurring personality on CBS’ The Early Show. Blatshaw hosts the hit series "Yard Crashers," airing on both DIY Network and HGTV.
