Matt Lucas

English Comedian, Singer and Actor; Currently Stars in Comedy Series, "Pompidou," and Best Known for His Work in TV Show "Little Britain"

Matt Lucas is a British comedian best known for writing and starring in the television sketch show Little Britain with David Walliams, as well as for his portrayal of the surreal scorekeeping baby George Dawes in the Reeves and Mortimer comedy panel game Shooting Stars. He currently stars with Walliams in the mockumentary comedy show Come Fly with Me, which the pair also created, from 2010-2011.

Born and raised in Middlesex, England, Lucas began his comedy career at the age of 18, performing on the London stand-up circuit. He was soon spotted by UK comedian Bob Mortimer, and rose to fame as the giant drumming baby George Dawes on Vic Reeves and Mortimer's surreal quiz show Shooting Stars.

Lucas is best known for creating and starring in the award-winning sketch show Little Britain alongside David Walliams. Having met at the University of Bristol, the pair went on to work together on various TV projects, most notably the spoof interview series Rock Profiles, before hitting the big time with Little Britain.

With its array of grotesque characters, including Lucas's chav teenager, Vicky 'yeah but no but' Pollard, his misanthropic Fat Fighter Marjorie Dawes, and his allegedly wheelchair bound Andy 'I want that one' Pipkin, the show spawned a generation of playground catchphrases and represented a slice of British society at the start of the 21st century.

Lucas has also starred in BBC Three's comedy series Krod Mandoon and The Flaming Sword of Fire as evil dictator Chancellor Dongalor, as well as appearing in CGI-guise as twins Tweedledum and Tweedledee in the hit 2009 international film Alice in Wonderland and voicing a gnome in Gnomeo and Juliet.

On 28 March 2012, Lucas appeared as the "Generation X" guest on the Australian game show Talkin' 'Bout Your Generation. On 10 April 2012, Lucas' own BBC One show The Matt Lucas Awards began. This can be understood as a send-up of awards programmes in general, inviting a number of panelists (generally speaking, comedians) to give their nominations for awards for a series of prizes concerning trivial topics.

Lucas also starred in the dark comedy Small Apartments released in February 2013 alongside James Caan, Billy Crystal, Johnny Knoxville, Juno Temple with other cameo performances by notable actors. On 21 February 2013 Lucas appeared in a guest role on the NBC series Community as Toby, an English friend of Abed Nadir. In 2014, Lucas played Ray Thomas in The Life of Rock with Brian Pern. Lucas launched a new comedy series called Pompidou for BBC Two. The show began airing at 6.30pm on 1 March 2015.

Lucas is a patron of the Karen Morris Memorial Trust, a UK charity for leukaemia patients and their families. In April 2004, he appeared on Celebrity Who Wants to Be a Millionaire? and won £62,500 for the charity.

In December 2006, Lucas entered into a civil partnership with Kevin McGee, in a lavish ceremony in Central London. In attendance were various celebrities, including Barbara Windsor, Neil Tennant, Elton John and Courtney Love. Their civil partnership was dissolved through the High Court in 2008, ending what was a six-year relationship. As of September 2012, Lucas lives with his Bridesmaids co-star Rebel Wilson in West Hollywood.
