Matt is best known for his role of “John Bennett” on the hit NETFLIX series ORANGE IS THE NEW BLACK. He portrayed the character for the first three seasons of the series. He earned a Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Comedy Series.

He currently stars on the drama HOW TO GET AWAY WITH MURDER, the first season was the #1 new drama on ABC in the 2014-2015 season. The second season premieres in Fall 2015.

Matt recently starred in HOW HE FELL IN LOVE, directed by Marc Meyers, the film is an Official Selection for the LA Film Festival 2015, premiered in June 2015, and revolves around Matt’s character, a struggling musician who finds unexpected chemistry and vulnerability with a married woman.

Matt is a passionate advocate for women’s equal rights, a regular global traveler, and is an expert in physical fitness, having been a certified trainer. Matt is also well known for his humorous social media presence and carries an incredibly engaged audience.

Matt was born and raised in Manhattan and began performing at age 9. He attended Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School in New York, then Emerson College in Boston, Massachusetts.
