Maura Sullivan is assistant secretary of the Office of Public and Intergovernmental Affairs at the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. A former Marine Corps captain and Iraq War veteran, Sullivan has more than 12 years of management experience as a Marine Corps Operations officer and most recently an executive at PepsiCo where she held a number of management roles. Prior to her current role, Sullivan was on the board of trustees of the Soldiers' Home in Chelsea, Mass., and in 2010, was appointed to the American Battle Monuments Commission by President Obama. She has held leadership positions in several organizations, including the Center for Public Leadership Alumni Council at the Harvard Kennedy School and Even Ground, which helps children in Africa orphaned by AIDS. Sullivan is a recipient of the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal and the Navy/Marine Corps Achievement Medal with a Gold Star. She holds a B.A. from Northwestern University, an M.B.A from Harvard Business School and an M.P.A. from the Harvard Kennedy School.
