Maura Tierney is a Golden Globe Award-winning actress known for her roles in high-profile films including Liar Liar, Primary Colors, Forces of Nature, and Instinct. Tierney was also a part of the cast of one of the most popular dramas in television history, "ER," from 1999 until 2009. The show garnered her many award nominations, including one for an Emmy. During these years, she also found the time to return to the New York stage, appearing in the off-Broadway plays "Some Girl(s)" and "Three Changes."
In 2009, Tierney was diagnosed with breast cancer. She underwent surgery and chemotherapy to remove the cancer, which was successful. Though she dropped out of the TV series "Parenthood" to attend to her health, she returned to work in 2010 with a role in the play "North Atlantic" and TV series "Rescue Me."
Finished with treatment, she began a recurring role on the CBS legal drama "The Good Wife," and in 2013, Tierney joined the cast of Showtime's "The Affair," playing Helen Solloway, for which she won the Golden Globe Award in 2016. In 2018, Tierney joined the cast of Beautiful Boy, a dark family drama with Steve Carell and Timothée Chalamet.
After surviving cancer, Tierney served as a spokeswoman for Amgen's "Chemotherapy: Myths or Facts" campaign. She aimed to debunk common misconceptions about chemotherapy and encourages survivors and caregivers to speak openly with their doctors.
In 2019, Tierney appeared in the film The Report alongside Adam Driverand Annette Bening. That same year, she originated the lead role of Elizabeth in the West Coast premiere of Jen Silverman's play "Witch" at the Geffen Playhouse
