Maverick City Music

American Contemporary Worship Music Collective

Maverick City Music is an American contemporary worship music collective and record label founded by Tony Brown and Jonathan Jay, originating from Atlanta, Georgia. The collective has released two extended plays, Maverick City, Vol. 1 (2019) and Maverick City, Vol. 2 (2019), as well as two studio albums, "Maverick City Vol. 3 Part 1" (2020), "Maverick City, Vol. 3 Pt. 2" (2020) and more recently two collaborative EPs with Upperroom, You Hold It All Together (2020) and Move Your Heart (2021). They also have an upcoming collaborative studio album with Elevation Worship titled "Old Church Basement".

Maverick City started with a dream to make space for folk that would otherwise live in their own separate worlds. To break the unspoken rules that exist in the CCM and Gospel World! More importantly, Maverick City aspires to be a mega phone for a community of creatives that have been pushed to the margins of the industry of Church Music. What brings us together, and that sound that is vivaciously smacking you in the face the first time you hit play on on a Maverick track. Isn’t the sound of a community that centered around their deprivation, it’s the audacious sound of true belonging: The beautiful harmony of long lost family.

Maybe now more than ever not just the Church but the world needs a plurality of strong diverse voices carrying messages that can help reshape the world. However Maverick City didn’t start out to be a diverse community for the sake of diversity. They simply became aware of the deep need for people that were so absent from their lives that their silence was deafening. Maverick City's response was to create space for that which they had so profoundly became of aware of -- our need for each other.

Maverick City Music Initiative partners with neighborhood organizations in Atlanta to meet practical needs and provide worship experiences in overlooked communities. Their mission statement is to serve communities affected by mass incarceration through music.
