Maya Chorengel

Co-founder of Elevar Equity & Senior Partner at The Rise Fund

Maya Chorengel is a senior partner at The Rise Fund based in San Francisco and has been with TPG since 2017. She has over two decades of impact investing and private equity experience and is a co-founder of Elevar Equity, a leading impact venture firm.

Chorengel co-founded Elevar in 2008 with the view that “Billions at the base of the economic pyramid lack access to fundamental services, not because providing these services is commercially unviable, but because our generation has not applied their imagination and will to innovate to create market-based solutions for these communities.”

She has private equity, venture capital, impact investing and investment banking experience with a passion for using bottom-up solutions to development challenges. She has worked in Hong Kong, Singapore, the Philippines, Indonesia, India, Great Britain and the US. She currently serves as a Director of GloboKasNet (a leading payments transaction services company in Peru). She is also a Director of Kiva and Salish|Growth.

Prior to Elevar, she was Managing Director of the Dignity Fund, a private investment fund where she structured and completed local currency debt financing for 15 high-growth microfinance institutions in 4 continents. She currently serves as an advisor to several impact investing funds and organizations and is a member of the Industry Advisory Council of the US National Advisory Board on Impact Investing (NAB). She has served on multiple boards in the past including Aarusha Homes, Caja Rural Los Andes, Dignity Fund, the International Association of Microfinance Investors, Silicon Valley Microfinance Network, Wokai, North Pole Ltd., printChannel and vCustomer. She lectures regularly at universities and business schools on impact investing.

Prior to the Dignity Fund, she was at Warburg Pincus, a leading, global private equity investor. At Warburg Pincus, she was based in their New York, Hong Kong, and Menlo Park offices, investing in growth companies (including leveraged buyouts and post-Asian-crisis balance sheet restructurings) in a variety of industries.

Chorengel graduated magna cum laude, Phi Beta Kappa, in Social Studies from Harvard University and she received her MBA from Harvard Business School. She enjoys discovering the world with her husband and two sons and hopes one day to write a novel.
