Maya Van Leemput      

Futurist & Consultant

Maya Van Leemput is a professional futurist combining research and consultancy with a co-creative multi-media practice. She is Lector Senior Researcher in Futures Research at the Erasmus Hogeschool Brussel.

Maya completed her Ph.D. research at the University of Westminster in 02001, with a thesis on ‘Visions of the Future on Television‘. During her doctoral studies she taught ‘Methods for Social Sciences’ at the University of Westminster and the City University and worked at the BBC’s Tomorrow’s World for participatory observation. Post-doctoral research at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel with a Prosepective Research grant from Innoviris followed.

Maya collaborates with visual artist Bram Goots on Agence Future, a long-term research project to explore images of the futures, using collaborative, participative approaches and tools a.o. with the cultural exchange project MAONO, exploring futures in the global North and South with students and artists from DR Congo.

Her consultancy focuses on foresight in the fields of science, technology, culture and development. Clients include the King Baudouin Foundation, EPTA, the Museum of Contemporary Art of Antwerp, MAS|Erfgoedcel Antwerpen, Prospekta, CultuurNet, Brussels Kunsten Overleg, Maison des Cultures et Cohesion Social de Molenbeek, COST.

She produced video-documents and exhibitions (M UHKA, MAS|Erfogedcel, BOZAR, Vooruit, Brakke Hond, IFFR, RTBF, Eén).

Maya is a member of the World Futures Studies Federation, the interdisciplinary visual arts collective OST and the Association of Professional Futurists.
