Meena Seshamani      

Deputy Administrator & Director at CMS Center for Medicare

As Deputy Administrator and Director, Meena Seshamani leads the CMS Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, where she is responsible for operations and policy for the health care coverage of 63 million Americans in the Medicare program. Her background as health care executive, health economist, physician, and health policy expert informs her perspective on how health policy impacts patient lives.

Previously, she was Vice President of Clinical Care Transformation at MedStar Health, a 10-hospital, 300+ outpatient site system, where her operational leadership led to national recognition by the Institute for Healthcare Improvement, the Commonwealth Fund and others. She led the Office of Health Reform at Health and Human Services over both of President Obama’s two terms in office, driving regulations implementing the Affordable Care Act, and supporting legislative action around insurance coverage, Medicare, and Medicaid reform.

Dr. Seshamani is an assistant professor in the Department of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery at the Georgetown University School of Medicine. She received her medical degree from the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine and her Ph.D. in economics from Oxford University.
