Melanie Scott-Bennett

Accomplished Attorney & Tech Enthusiast; Vice President, Associate General Counsel at Peloton; Author, "Through It All" & Cancer Survivor

Melanie Scott-Bennett is an accomplished attorney and tech enthusiast. With over fifteen years of legal experience and more than twenty years of business acumen, she has developed a strong background in both sectors. Prior to joining Microsoft, Scott-Bennett provided commercial and transactional legal support to senior leadership in Siemens Building Technologies and Energy divisions. She also served as General Counsel for a boutique entertainment company, contributing to its expansion into award-winning films and television.

In 2016, Scott-Bennett joined Microsoft and supported product development, marketing, and sales for consumer devices such as O365, Xbox, and Surface. As of now, she is Vice President and Associate General Counsel at Peloton, leading the Product Legal team and supporting consumer and commercial-connected fitness products. Her passion for innovative thinking has resulted in transformative deal structures and product launches spanning from entertainment to technology. Scott-Bennett's commitment extends beyond her professional duties as she is actively involved with organizations like Black Girls Who Code, Leadership Counsel on Legal Diversity, and the Minority Corporate Counsel Association.

Scott-Bennett's journey took a life-changing turn in 2013 when she was diagnosed with an aggressive form of leukemia, leading to a near-death but life-saving stem cell transplant and a two-year recovery. Rather than being defeated by this, she has turned her experience into a powerful testimony, serving as a keynote speaker and panelist for cancer support groups, churches, and conferences. She has also used her platform to support various charities, including the Leukemia Lymphoma Society and St. Jude. She continues to inspire others with her memoir titled "Through It All" and her ongoing philanthropic work, where she is passionate about diverse representation in the tech and legal industries. Apart from her professional pursuits, Scott-Bennett served as a board member for Washington Lawyers for the Arts, the Seattle Cancer Care Alliance, and Ball State University.

She holds a Bachelor of Science from Ball State University and a Juris Doctor from Valparaiso University School of Law. She resides in Silver Spring, MD, and is happily married to Dr. Duane Bennett.
