For more than two decades with The Container Store, Melissa has served in numerous key leadership roles, rising to Chief Operating Officer in 2013 and then to Chief Executive Officer in 2016 leading the company’s more than 5,000 employees. She has served on the company’s board of directors since 2007.

Throughout her career, Melissa has focused on enhancing and strengthening the company’s unique, people-first culture centered on its values-based Foundation Principles. The 7th Foundation Principle – Communication IS Leadership – a discipline she brought to the company, was added in 2008 in her honor for her devotion to this vital component of The Container Store’s culture.

As CEO, Melissa has spearheaded The Container Store’s five-year strategic plan, which includes goals-driven restructuring initiatives and the implementation of key efficiency and effectiveness programs across the company. During her tenure as CEO, the company continues to earn recognition as one of Fortune’s “Top 100 Best Companies to Work For,” and she has been honored several times for her leadership acumen by D CEO Magazine. In 2015, she was named as one of 25 executives on “The List of People Shaping Retail’s Future” by the National Retail Federation.

Melissa serves on the board of directors of Etsy, Inc. (NASDAQ: ETSY); on the executive board of her alma mater, Southern Methodist University’s Cox School of Business; and is a sustaining member of the Junior League of Dallas. She is a recipient of the SMU Cox School of Business Distinguished Alumna award.
