Micah Garen is a writer, photographer, and documentary filmmaker currently at work on three films: one set in Iraq, one in Afghanistan, and one on the Egyptian revolution. His work has been featured in The New York Times, Newsweek, US News & World Report, the Financial Times, the Associated Press, Granta Magazine, Vanity Fair and Michael Moore’s Fahrenheit 9/11. His first book, American Hostage, a memoir about his kidnapping in Iraq in 2004, was published by Simon & Schuster in 2005. He has received grants from the MacDowell Colony, Ucross Foundation, the Carr Foundation and Wider Film Projects.
