Michael Riley has covered white collar crime and cyber security for Bloomberg News in Washington since 2010. In 15 years in journalism, Riley has covered drug kingpins in Latin America, immigrant smuggling on the southwest border, and Russian and Chinese cyber criminals. He worked for The Denver Post prior to coming to Bloomberg as a roving enterprise and investigative reporter, examining violence on Indian reservations and the environmental impacts of global gold mining. Riley worked for three years in Mexico for the Houston Chronicle and, in 1998, examined human rights abuses of the Mexican military as an Inter American Press Association fellow. Riley received the American Bar Association’s Silver Gavel award in 2008. He has been a finalist for Investigative Reporters and Editors (IRE) top reporting prize and the National Newspaper Guild’s Heywood Broun Award for work that “helps right a wrong or correct an injustice.”
