Michael Bloomberg is a businessman, politician, philanthropist, and author. With a Bachelor of Science degree in electrical engineering from Johns Hopkins University and an MBA from Harvard University, Bloomberg co-founded Bloomberg L.P., a leading financial information, software, and media firm. He served as the mayor of New York City for three terms from 2002 to 2013, implementing a metrics-based management approach to city government. His tenure saw improvements in education, urban infrastructure, and public health initiatives, among other areas.

In recent years, Bloomberg has been active in the political field at the national level. He launched a campaign for the Democratic nomination for president in the 2020 election but ended his campaign in March 2020. Currently, Bloomberg serves as the chair of the Defense Innovation Board, providing recommendations on artificial intelligence and digital modernization to the United States Department of Defense. Despite his unsuccessful bid for the presidency, Bloomberg's influence in politics remains significant through his generous campaign donations and endorsements.

Outside of his political and business pursuits, Bloomberg is a renowned philanthropist, having donated $17.4 billion to various causes throughout his lifetime. His foundation, Bloomberg Philanthropies, focuses on public health, the arts, government innovation, the environment, and education. Bloomberg's philanthropic efforts have not only resulted in significant contributions to these fields but also reflect his commitment to using his resources for the betterment of society. In 2024, Bloomberg was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom by President Joe Biden.
