Experience

1996 - 2003 Volunteer staff member for Wyoming Dinosaur Society’s digs at Como Bluff, Wyoming – Jurassic/early Cretaceous paleontology fieldwork hosted by Dr. Robert Bakker and Mel Connely of Casper College, Wyoming. Field-trained in prospecting, excavation, plaster jacketing, simple preparation, field driving, and team coordination at both microsites and large fauna quarries.

1996 Concept artist for Disney MGM Studios' Twilight Zone Tower of Terror promotional campaigns – designed five distinct horizontal ad formats for the vertical elevator-drop thrill ride, all of which were used on billboards, buses, or other large-format ads.

2004 Independent study under Mel Connely of Casper College, Wyoming: Analysis of Alcova Reservoir Pteraichnus stokesi trackways, including multiple gait reconstructions and all illustration plates for Connely’s presentation on the trackways at GSA 2004.

2004 Public Education assistant for University of Kansas' summer child day camp programs under Teresa MacDonald. Responsible for preparing and coordinating classroom materials and engaging children as a second classroom supervisor, teaching assistant, and field trip chaperone. (Summer)

2005 - 2009 Professional scientific illustrator for Dr. Linda Trueb (Curator of Herpetology) and Dr. Rafe Brown at the University of Kansas Natural History Museum/National Biodiversity Research Center. Created all illustration plates for Dr. Brown’s descriptions of over fifty species of Platymantis (Philippine frogs) and a field guide to Philippine snakes, in addition to preparing field tags, maintaining the herpetology collection, etc. Also illustrated the description of a new species of the blind snake Acutotyphlops, the gecko Luperosaurus, the flying frog Rhacophorus, and the skink Sphenomorphis.

2005 Three-week professional illustration assignment under paleontologist Bill Parker of Petrified Forest National Park: reconstructed dermal armor and life appearance of Desmatosuchus haplocerus and Heliocanthus chamaensis, and illustrated several skeletal elements of Revueltosaurus callenderi.

2005 Productions staff member for KJHK 90.7 FM Lawrence, KS. Created promotional spots and public service announcements using home recording software (Ableton Live). Won “spot of the month,” April 2005.

2006 - 2008 Concert promoter and retail campaigner for The Street Syndicate, a national music promotion company out of New Jersey.

2006 - 2008 Volunteer promotions assistant and community director for www.zaadz.com (now www.gaia.com) - a social network for conscious entrepreneurs, activists, artists, and compassionate consumers. Founded and moderated Zaadz Visionary Music, an international community of artists dedicated to bettering the world through their creativity (now extinct).

2006 Two contract illustration projects with Drs. Bruce Lieberman and Paulyn Cartwright of the University of Kansas, illustrating fossils of Cambrian jellyfish and providing paleontological reconstructions of two Cambrian arthropods (Nettapedoura and Dicranocaris) for use in species descriptions and a Geological Society of America presentation.

2007 Organized and released The Dream Is Valid: A Benefit Compilation for Kiva.org. Featuring 17 artists from Zaadz Visionary Music, the album is available at Omstream & Bandcamp. All of its proceeds go to a growing pool of microloans for entrepreneurs in developing nations. Kiva.org president Premal Shah commented, "The support and generosity of this community of musicians, and everyone who purchases the album at Omstream, can make a real difference in the lives of the poor who may not otherwise have access to needed capital to build their businesses so that they can send their children to school, afford medical care, and pull themselves out of the poverty cycle."

2007 Wrote the afterword for Paul Lonely’s breakthrough novel Suicide Dictionary, which Paul called “better than the book itself,” after integral philosopher Ken Wilber had to decline due to health reasons. Also wrote the first movement of "Liturgy of the Quantum Heart" as part of a series of musical pieces to accompany the book. More info available at Amazon and SDI Experience.

2007 - 2008 Member of the volunteer editorial team for philosopher Ken Wilber’s blog.

2007 - 2008 Member of a pre-beta blogging team, and social networks consultant, for Boulder social music network and music app designers Iggli.

2007 - 2008 Sound man for Friday and Sunday concerts at The Laughing Goat Coffeehouse, Boulder, CO, running a 16-track Behringer mixer.

2009 Created cover illustration and frontispiece for Integral Ecology: Uniting Multiple Perspectives On TheNatural World, by Dr. Sean Esbjörn-Hargens and Dr. Michael Zimmerman (released through Shambhala Publications).

2009 Corrected and standardized all illustrative plates, graphs, and other figures (using Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop) for University of Kansas Natural History Museum ecology textbook project (Authors: Town Peterson, PhD & Jorgé Soberón, PhD). (June – October)

2009 - present Live Art Director for Sonic Bloom Festival.

2009 - 2011 Delivered annual presentations on evolutionary biology, biogeomagnetics, and fractals in the biological sciences and psychology at Burning Man Festival (Entheon Village & Red Lightning), as well as throughout the year at numerous other festivals and academic events (all talks are available for streaming and free download).

2010 Tour partner, and documentary film assistant with journalist Charles Shaw on the Unheard Voices Project (a documentary and online interview archive covering multiple perspectives on the American criminal justice system) and the Light & Shadow Tour: Exploring Personal & Cultural Transformation (a six-week, thirty city national speaking tour on the role of repressed voices in self and culture, sponsored by Evolver.net and openDemocracy.net). (October – November)

2011 - 2012 Art gallery curator and live art director for Wakarusa Music Festival.

2011 Organized and released L.A.B. Tracks: A Benefit for Sasha Shulgin. This compilation features twenty-five international artists and has raised nearly $2000 for visionary chemist Sasha Shulgin's ongoing medical expenses.

2006 - present Performing multi-instrumentalist singer-songwriter, with gigs at weddings (Kansas City MO, June 2008; Denver CO, July 2008), hotels (The Standard - Miami FL, August 2007; Hotel Donaldson - Fargo ND, February 2011), art gallery openings (Olive Gallery - Lawrence KS, 2007; Pangaea Gallery - Lawrence KS, November 2008), colleges (University of Colorado - September 2009; University of Minnesota - February 2011), and music festivals – including Wakarusa (2007); Sonic Bloom (2012, 2013); Dreamtime (2007); Frozen Dead Guy Days (2008); McDowell Mountain (2009); MAPS Conference (2010); Motion Notion (Canada, 2010); Rootwire (2010, 2011, 2012); Seattle Peace Concert (2006); Dharmapalooza (2006); GeoParadise (Costa Rica, 2011), and more. 2012 Live music for stage production of Matthew Pallamary's Land Without Evil. Staged at The Stateside at the Paramount Theater in Austin and filmed by PBS for their series, Arts In Context. Performed original live music on cyberacoustic guitar for scenes and scene changes, the only cast member on stage for the entire performance.

2013 Appointed editor-in-Chief for SolPurpose.com.

2013 Selected by Google for their Glass Explorers Program. Successfully funded an Indiegogo campaign to cover the costs of picking up my Glass in New York and publishing a series of related essays and videos, exploring the creative potentials and social hazards of wearable computing.
