Chairman & CEO of Liebreich Associates; Senior Contributor, Bloomberg New Energy Finance; Authority on Clean Energy, Transportation, Climate Finance & Sustainable Development

Michael Liebreich is Chairman and CEO of Liebreich Associates, where he provides advisory services and speaks on clean energy and transportation, smart infrastructure, technology, climate finance, and sustainable development. In September 2020, he became an official Advisor to the UK’s Board of Trade. In addition to this, he is also a senior contributor at Bloomberg New Energy Finance, a company he founded in 2004. In 2005, it was named the Euromoney Ernst & Young Information Provider of the Year.

In July 2020, Liebreich started “Cleaning Up – Leadership in an Age of Climate Change, “a weekly podcast and YouTube channel featuring guests like Tony Blair and Ban Ki-moon. In March 2021, Liebreich became a Co-Founding and Managing Partner of EcoPragma Capital LLP, a Growth Equity investor investing in companies on the cusp of strong commercial growth and contributing to the net-zero transition. He had previously launched Project Bo in 2018, a charitable campaign that successfully funded a solar power system for a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit in Sierra Leone.

Having founded New Energy Finance in 2004, Liebreich served as Chairman and CEO until the company's sale to Bloomberg LP in 2009. He remained CEO of Bloomberg New Energy Finance until 2014, then became Chairman of the Advisory Board, and since the start of 2018, has been a Senior Contributor. Liebreich also serves on the board of Transport for London and is a visiting professor at Imperial College Energy Futures Lab. His leadership and renewable energy and sustainability expertise earned him an Honorary Fellowship from the Energy Institute in November 2022.

Liebreich serves on several advisory boards, including the World Economic Forum's Global Agenda Council and the UN Secretary General's High Level Group on Sustainable Energy for All. His writings on energy and environmental policy have been influential, including "Green conservatism: protecting the environment through open markets," published in Green Alliance. He was also the executive producer of the video short "First They Ignore You..." in 2011, which illustrates the shift away from fossil fuels.

Liebreich's commitment to sustainability extends beyond his professional life. In 2003, he coordinated a rescue operation in the Bolivian Andes, for which he received a Testimonial on Vellum from the Royal Humane Society. He earned a Clean Air City Award in 2014 for improving London's air quality. Before his current roles, he helped build over 25 companies as a venture capitalist, entrepreneur, and executive and has been recognized as a two-time Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year finalist.

Apart from his business acumen, Liebreich was a member of the British Ski Team from 1986 to 1993, British Moguls Champion in 1991, and competed in the Europa Cup, World Cup, and the 1992 Albertville Olympics. He is fluent in French and German. Based in London, he continues to advise, speak, and comment on matters relating to energy, energy efficiency, clean transportation, finance, and sustainable development.
