Dr. Michael Maccoby is a well known international authority on the psychology of leadership and a pioneer in ways to change work. A noted anthropologist, psychoanalyst, writer and consultant on leadership, strategy and organization, he has written a number of valuable books on the qualities that make for effective leadership.

His most recent book, The Productive Narcissist: The Promise and Peril of Visionary Leadership, offers a new way to think about modern leadership that’s based on personality types and what he calls “strategic intelligence.”

He first opened the field of leadership psychology with his 1977 bestseller, The Gamesman, which described the motivation of entrepreneurs and managers in high-tech industry.

Dr. Maccoby has been a consultant and coach to leaders in many corporations, unions, universities, the World Bank, and the State and Commerce Departments of the U.S. Government. He has advised CEOs of major companies in Sweden, Norway and Finland as well as the U.S., and he also has worked in Asia, Latin America, and North Africa.

Michael Maccoby is president of The Maccoby Group and director of the Project on Technology, Work and Character (PTWC), a not-for-profit research organization that studies leadership, values, and organizational change.

Dr. Maccoby has taught at several premier educational institutions around the world and is a fellow of several prestigious institutions. He studied psychoanalysis with Erich Fromm, with whom he coauthored a book.
