Michael Murphy  

Innovative Architect; Trustee Emeritus and Co-Founder at MASS Design Group

Michael Murphy is an architect, educator and writer, whose work focuses on how the built environment shapes our lives, our health, and our communities.

Murphy is the Thomas Ventulett III Distinguished Chair in Architectural Design at Georgia Tech. He serves as Trustee Emeritus of the MASS Design Group, the nonprofit architecture collective he co-founded. During his tenure, MASS (Model of Architecture Serving Society) was the recipient of numerous accolades, including the AIA Firm of the Year Award, Wall Street Journal Magazine’s Innovator of the Year, The American Arts and Letters Award, and the Cooper Hewitt National Design Award.

Murphy has been personally honored by the Royal Institute of British Architects as an International FRIBA and has held fellowships and advisory roles with the Emerson Collective, the Aspen Institute, The Santa Fe Art institute, and the Clinton Global Initiative. He has lectured around the world, advocating for a different approach to architecture.

Murphy holds a Master of Architecture degree from Harvard’s Graduate School of Design and a Bachelor of Arts from University of Chicago.
