Mike Barnicle          

Award-Winning Journalist, Social & Political Commentator

Mike Barnicle is a veteran print and broadcast journalist, radio personality, and social and political commentator. A regular on MSNBC's "Morning Joe," "Harball," and NBC's "Today Show" he is known for his straightforward commentary and writing style that gives insight and perspective to everyday issues. In addition to his work on MSNBC, Barnicle is also a contributor to the local Boston television news magazine, Chronicle on WCVB-TV, and has appeared on PBS's Charlie Rose, the PBS NewsHour, CBS's 60 Minutes, ESPN, and HBO sports programming. He has covered breaking news topics and has interviewed all of the candidates in the 2016 and 2020 presidential races.

Barnicle has written more than 4,000 columns collectively for the Boston Herald, New York Daily News, and The Boston Globe. His work has not been restricted to these publications; he has also written for Time magazine, Newsweek, The Huffington Post, The Daily Beast, ESPN Magazine, and Esquire, among others. A number of his columns are featured in anthologies published by Abrams Books.

Barnicle previously hosted a popular morning drive-time talk radio program on WTKK-FM in Boston, where he was The Voice of New England. For many years he was also a frequent guest on "Imus in the Morning," where his "Barnicle's View" was heard three days a week. Apart from his career in journalism, Barnicle is also a devoted baseball fan and has been featured in TV documentaries and programs, including Ken Burns' film Baseball and ESPN's Sports Century.

In the 1970s, Barnicle and The Globe won praise with their coverage of the political and social upheaval that roiled Boston after the city instituted a mandatory, court-ordered school desegregation plan. Later, in 1986, Barnicle gave voice to the Boston residents who had been angered by the policy and earned the paper a highly coveted Pulitzer Prize for Public Service. For his exceptional body of work, Barnicle has received the Pete Hamill Award for Journalistic Excellence from the Glucksman Ireland House at New York University in addition to numerous other local and national awards and recognition, including honors from AP, UPI, DuPont Columbia, and the National Headliners Awards.
