Axel Rüger  

Director of the Van Gogh Museum

Mr. Axel Rüger has been working as Director of the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam since April 2006. He studied art history in Berlin (Freie Universität), Cambridge University (United Kingdom) and Queen's University, Kingston, Ontario, Canada, where he started his Ph.D.

Mr. Rüger worked as Curator of Dutch Paintings 1600-1800 at the National Gallery in London, between 1999 and 2006. In 2004 Rüger was selected to be a fellow in the first year of the newly created Clore Leadership Programme, an initiative of the Clore Duffield Foundation in the United Kingdom.
