David Gordon set up Gordon Advisory LLC in 2008 to advise cultural organizations on governance, strategy, organization and finance. Clients include Tate in London, the High Line in New York, the National Library of Israel in Jerusalem, the Wende Museum of the Cold War in Los Angeles, the American Folk Art Museum and the Jewish Museum in New York. He was interim director of New York’s Museum of Arts and Design from January to August 2013.In 2002, Gordon became director and CEO of the Milwaukee Art Museum, which, following the opening of the Santiago Calatrava–designed expansion was left with debts of $30m. He built a strong program, management and staff and eliminated the debt.

In 1966 he became Director (“Secretary”) of the Royal Academy of Arts and restored its finances following a major fraud and financial losses, overhauled management and introduced planning systems for its major international loan exhibitions.

Mr. Gordon studied Politics, Philosophy and Economics at the University of Oxford, qualified as a Chartered Accountant (CPA), became a journalist on The Economist and then, for 12 years, its CEO.

He has been a trustee of Tate, the South Bank Centre, the British Film Institute and the Architecture Foundation. He was chairman of the Contemporary Art Society. He is a trustee of the American Folk Art Museum. He lives in New YorkCity.
