Mutemath (often stylized as MUTEMATH) is an American alternative rock band from New Orleans that formed in 2003. The group consists of lead vocalist and keyboardist Paul Meany, Darren King on drums, Todd Gummerman on guitar, and bassist Roy Mitchell-Cárdenas, but they often perform on any mixture or variation of these instruments. In April 2011, it was announced on their official website that guitarist Greg Hill had left the band in October 2010.

The band’s first release was the 2004 EP, “Reset,” which was issued by division of Warner Music Group. The album went out of print in the U.S. in 2006, but was re-released in the U.K. in July 2007.

Their debut full-length album, “Mutemath,” was independently released by Teleprompt in 2006. In September 2006, a remastered version of the album was released on Warner Bros. Records, featuring additional tracks from “Reset.” A limited-edition live EP was included with the first 25,000 copies. The album debuted on Billboard's Heatseekers Albums chart at #17. It reappeared on the same chart almost a year later at #28 while the first radio single “Typical” debuted at #39 on Billboard's Modern Rock Tracks chart the same week.

“Armistice,” their second full-length album, was released in August 2009 through Teleprompt Records and Warner Bros. Records. Armistice debuted at #18 on the Billboard 200 Albums chart while also reaching #4 on the Billboard Rock Albums chart and #3 on the Billboard Digital Albums and Billboard Alternative Albums charts.

In 2011 the band released their third LP, “Odd Soul,” via Teleprompt/Warner Bros. It was the first album without original guitarist Greg Hill. Bassist Roy Mitchell Cardenas filled in on all guitar duties during writing and recording. The album debuted at #24 on the Billboard 200, while also reaching #7 on the Alternative Albums and #8 on the Rock Albums charts. The single “Blood Pressure” was a Top 40 hit on the Alternative Songs chart.
