Naima Coster is the award-winning author of "Halsey Street", a novel of family, loss, and renewal, set in a rapidly gentrifying Brooklyn. Halsey Street has been recommended as a must-read for 2018 by People, Essence, Bustle, Kirkus Reviews, Electric Lit, BitchMedia, The Root, and Gotham Magazine.

Naima’s forthcoming second novel, "Didn’t Never Know", is the story of the integration of a public high school in a small Southern town, which sets off a chain of events that bonds two families together in unexpected and complicated ways. In 2019, Coster published "Lila", an intimate true story about the complexities of female friendship, in collaboration with Amazon's Original Stories series.

Coster is the recipient of numerous awards, including the Cosmonauts Avenue Non-Fiction Prize, judged by Roxane Gay. Her stories and essays have appeared in the New York Times, Catapult, Arts & Letters, The Rumpus, Kweli, Guernica, The Paris Review Daily, and elsewhere.

Coster holds an MFA in Creative Writing from Columbia University. and has taught writing to students in jail, youth programs, and universities. She is also a proud alumna of Prep for Prep, a leadership development program in New York City, and a contributor to the newsletter, Bloom How You Must.
