Nancy Kerrigan
Two-Time Olympic Medalist & US National Figure Skating Champion; Fight for Sight Spokesperson
Nancy Kerrigan is a two-time Olympic medalist in figure skating.
Kerrigan’s rise to competing at a national level began when she placed 3rd at the 1991 U.S. Figure Skating Championships. A year later, in 1992, she earned a bronze medal in the Albertville Winter Olympics as well as the silver medal at the 1992 World Championships. In 1993, Kerrigan became the US Ladies Champion and followed that up with her historic silver medal performance at the 1994 Lillehammer Winter Olympics. Along the way, Kerrigan became known for her grace and groundbreaking fashion on the ice, teaming up with designer Vera Wang to create some of the most memorable skating outfits in the history of the sport.
Kerrigan has been inducted into both the Figure Skating Hall of Fame and the U.S. Olympic Hall of Fame.
Off the ice, Kerrigan has regularly appeared on television and in movies including season 24 of "Dancing With the Stars;" hosted "Saturday Night Live"; provided television skating commentary; and executive produced “Why Don’t You Lose 5 Lbs.?,” a documentary focusing on the pressure athletes experience to maintain lean and “perfect” bodies. She is executive producing and choreographing select skating sequences for the feature film, "Fire and Ice."
Kerrigan is also the author of "Artistry on Ice: Figure Skating Skills and Style" and "Nancy Kerrigan: In My Own Words." "Stronger than She Thinks" is her first book for children.
Kerrigan, who previously created The Nancy Kerrigan Foundation for the visually impaired to honor her legally blind mother, serves as a spokesperson for Fight for Sight, a nonprofit organization which funds medical research in vision and ophthalmology.
