Chairman of the Board of Tata Sons

Natarajan Chandrasekaran serves as the Chairman of the Board of Tata Sons, the principal holding company overseeing more than 100 Tata Group companies with combined annual revenues exceeding US $100 billion. He assumed the role in January 2017, following his appointment to the Tata Sons Board in October 2016. Chandrasekaran also chairs the boards of several prominent Tata operating companies, including Tata Steel, Tata Motors, Tata Power, and Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), where he served as CEO from 2009 to 2017.

Chandrasekaran’s career spans over three decades, beginning at TCS, where he joined straight from university. His tenure at TCS culminated in his appointment as CEO and Managing Director, during which TCS solidified its position as a global leader in IT solutions and consulting, achieving revenues of US $16.5 billion in 2015-16. Under his stewardship, TCS became India’s largest private sector employer and the country’s most valuable company, recognized globally for its innovation and customer-centric approach.

Beyond his corporate leadership, Chandrasekaran’s influence extends to significant roles in international business and governance. He served on the Board of India’s central bank, the Reserve Bank of India, and chaired the Information and Communication Technology Industry Governors at the World Economic Forum in Davos from 2015 to 2016. He also chaired NASSCOM, India’s apex trade body for IT services, during 2012-13.

Chandrasekaran is actively involved in bilateral business forums between India and key global economies such as the USA, UK, Australia, and Japan, fostering international business relations. His leadership has earned him accolades from corporate and community organizations worldwide, including several honorary doctorates from prestigious universities in India and abroad. He holds a master's degree in Computer Applications from Regional Engineering College, Trichy, Tamil Nadu.
