Nate Parker
Actor, Director & Screenwriter Known for "The Great Debaters," "Red Tails" & "The Birth of a Nation"; Creator of the HBCU Storytellers Project & Founder of The Nate Parker Foundation
Nate Parker is an American actor, director, producer, and screenwriter. He has been actively contributing to the entertainment industry since 2004, appearing in films such as "Beyond the Lights," "Arbitrage," "Non-Stop," "Felon," and "Pride." His work as Henry Lowe in "The Great Debaters" brought him recognition and paved the way for his subsequent roles, such as the love interest in "The Secret Life of Bees" and Marty "Easy" Julian in "Red Tails."
Parker's directorial debut, "The Birth of a Nation," made history at the 2016 Sundance Film Festival when Fox Searchlight Pictures acquired it for $17.5 million. This film, based on the life of Nat Turner, earned him the Sundance Institute's Vanguard Award in August 2016. In addition to his work on the big screen, Parker directed ten episodes of the web series "Baselines." He continued his directorial and acting journey with the film "American Skin" in 2019 and is working on his next film, "Solitary."
Off the screen, Parker is deeply committed to educational and youth initiatives. He sponsors scholarships for youth at East Texas Wiley College through the 100 Men of Excellence Initiative and founded The Nate Parker School of Film and Drama at the same institution. His foundation, The Nate Parker Foundation, established in 2015, supports the Nate Parker Summer Film Institute at Wiley College and received the first grant to make the HBCU Storytellers Project. Furthermore, he supports the Boys & Girls Clubs of America and the Peace4Kids program and works with a Brooklyn initiative called Leadership and Literacy through Debate.
