Nellie Bristol is a research fellow with the CSIS Global Health Policy Center. She joined CSIS following a long career as a journalist writing about domestic and global health policy in Washington. Bristol covered domestic health policy on Capitol Hill for two decades. She expanded her coverage to include global health in 2005 and has written for top publications in the field including The Lancet and Health Affairs. She has explored a variety of topics including HIV/AIDS, foreign aid and national security, U.S. global health policy, noncommunicable diseases, and efforts to combat maternal mortality in Peru. Other publications Bristol has contributed to include CQ Researcher, Global Health Magazine, BMJ, the Fiscal Times, the Washington Post, and the International Medical News Group. She also coauthored a report in 2011 on the future of global health journalism, a project sponsored by the Kaiser Family Foundation. She worked with the Ministerial Leadership Initiative for Global Health at the Aspen Institute and helped arranged Gates Foundation funding for global health and development journalism at the Pulitzer Center on Crisis Reporting. She has a master’s degree in public health/global health from the George Washington University.
