Nicholas Agar

Expert on the Human Significance of Technological Progress; Author

Nicholas Agar is a philosopher based in New Zealand who is primarily interested in the effects of technological advancement on human societies. Agar is the author of several books, including his March 2019 release "How to Be Human in the Digital Age," in which he says that humans will need to insist on their relevance in the digital age.

Agar argues that people have a tendency to overglorify an advanced technological future while underselling the less technologically-advanced past as primitive and dirty. He works as a professor of ethics at Victoria University in Wellington, New Zealand, where he has taught since 1996.
