Science Reporter & Associate Editorial Director of Events at STAT; Host of Health Equity Podcast "Color Code"

Nicholas St. Fleur is an award-winning science journalist and a children's STEM author. He covers the intersection of race, medicine and the life sciences in his roles as general assignment reporter and Associate Editorial Director of Events at STAT, and is host of their health equity podcast, "Color Code."

Before joining STAT, St. Fleur was a science reporter and freelancer for The New York Times, where he wrote on archaeology, paleontology, human evolution, natural history, space, and other curiosities of the cosmos. Prior to joining The Times, he reported for The Atlantic, where he covered everything from space probes on comets to New York City street protests. He also authored the children's nonfiction book, "Did You Know? Dinosaurs," part of the DK Smithsonian series. Other areas of interest include citizen science, K-12 STEM education, and issues of diversity in science.

St. Fleur is the recipient of the 2021 Evert Clark/Seth Payne Award for Young Science Journalists and was a winner of the 2023 June L. Biedler Prize for Cancer Journalism. He received a B.S. in biology from Cornell University and is a graduate of the Science Communication Program at the University of California, Santa Cruz.

Alumnus Nicholas St. Fleur wins top award for young science journalists
Nicholas St. Fleur, a 2014 graduate of UCSC's Science Communication Program, has received the 2021 Evert Clark/Seth Payne Award from the Council for the Advancement of Science Writing, the top annual prize in the U.S. for science journalists age 30 or younger. St. Fleur is a reporter at STAT, a health and medicine news site associated with the Boston Globe.
