Nicole Hockley

Managing Director at Sandy Hook Promise; Gun Control Advocate; Mother of Dylan Hockley

After the tragic death of her son Dylan, who was one of 20 first-graders killed at Sandy Hook Elementary School, Nicole Hockley dedicated herself to working for change so that other families might be spared the pain of losing a loved one to gun violence. That commitment led her to Sandy Hook Promise, where she directs the organization’s communications, outreach efforts and serves as a spokesperson. Hockley has become an important advocate for the need to turn tragedy into transformation through love. She is focused on bringing people together in honest dialogue and searching for innovative solutions in the areas of mental wellness, school safety, community connectedness and gun safety. Her leadership has been recognized by People Magazine as one of 25 Women Changing the World in 2016.

Hockley’s strength is born from the decision to move towards hope. Her endurance is fueled by the need to prevent further tragedies and save lives. Her commitment to Sandy Hook Promise is the very essence of resilience: we’re all safer because of what she’s lost. She is a contributor to the Huffington Post, Time Magazine and other news outlets.
