Nicole Kidman is an actress and producer whose career has spanned over four decades. Kidman began her acting career in Australian film and television in the early 1980s with films including "Bush Christmas" and "BMX Bandits." She gained international attention with her role in the thriller "Dead Calm" and her breakout performance in "Days of Thunder."
Her career escalated throughout the 1990s and 2000s, with a series of critically acclaimed performances, including her roles in films like "To Die For," for which she won the Golden Globe Award for Best Actress in a Motion Picture - Musical or Comedy, "Batman Forever," and "Moulin Rouge!." In 2002, she won the Academy Award for Best Actress for her portrayal of writer Virginia Woolf in "The Hours." Kidman continued to impress with her performances in films such as "The Others," "Cold Mountain," "The Golden Compass," and "The Paperboy." More recent projects of Kidman's include "A Family Affair," "The Perfect Couple," and "Babygirl," for which she received a Golden Globe nomination.
Kidman's recent ventures into television have been highly successful, starring in and producing the HBO series "Big Little Lies," for which she won both a Primetime Emmy Award and a Golden Globe Award. She also starred in acclaimed series like "The Undoing" and "Nine Perfect Strangers." In 2010, she founded the production company Blossom Films, which has been instrumental in producing many of these successful television series.
Outside of her acting achievements, Kidman has used her platform to advocate for women's rights, children's welfare, and various humanitarian causes. She has served as a Goodwill Ambassador for UNICEF since 1994 and UNIFEM since 2006. In 2004 and 2018, Time included her on its list of the 100 most influential people in the world. In 2020, The New York Times named her one of the greatest actors of the 21st century. Kidman continues to captivate audiences worldwide with her depth, versatility, and commitment to storytelling. She is the first Australian actor to receive the AFI Life Achievement Award honor in 2024.
