Niecy Nash

Emmy Award-Winning Actress Known for Starring as Desna Simms on "Claws"

With her signature flower in her hair, Niecy Nash never fails to make an impression. Known for serving as the host and producer of Style Network's "Clean House" from 2003 to 2010, Nash is an Emmy Award-winning actress. Her other notable roles have included playing nurse Denise "DiDi" Ortley in the HBO comedy "Getting On" (2013-2015) and starring as Desna Simms in TNT's crime comedy-drama "Claws" (2017-).

In 2019, she played Delores Wise, the mother of one of the wrongfully convicted Central Park Five boys, in Ava DuVernay's Netflix miniseries "When They See Us."

Despite all her breathtaking performances as an actress, Nash's own personal journey is far more interesting than anything a Hollywood writer could invent.

Raised in Compton, California, she always dreamed of becoming a performer. At 15, she watched as her mother's boyfriend shot her mom. Her mother survived, but eight years later Nash's younger brother was shot to death at his high school. Nash used her gift of comedy to help her mother overcome her depression.

In order to "laugh to keep from crying," she became a comic who found her own voice out of tragedy.

A successful actress, host, producer and mother, Nash cuts through the "mayhem and foolishness" to bring a surprising, touching and truly inspiring message of joy to audiences everywhere.

Her 2013 book "It's Hard to Fight Naked" shows you how to think differently about traditional norms and matters of the heart in the straightforward, funny and tell-it-like-it-is style only she can deliver.

In 2015 and 2016, Nash starred as Denise Hemphill in the horror-comedy series "Scream Queens."
