Niecy Nash, born Carol Denise Ensley, in Palmdale, California, is an acclaimed actress, comedian, and television host known for her charismatic performances across comedy and drama. She first gained widespread recognition as the host of the home makeover show "Clean House," which earned her a Daytime Emmy Award in 2010 although she began her professional acting career as an unidentified “woman in a diner” in the 1995 film, "Boys on the Side."
Nash’s breakout role came with the cult comedy series "Reno 911!," where she played Deputy Raineesha Williams, a fan-favorite character known for her bold and hilarious personality. While known for her comedic chops, Nash has proven her range with standout dramatic performances. She earned critical acclaim and two Primetime Emmy nominations for her role as Nurse Didi Ortley in HBO’s "Getting On" and later starred as Desna Simms in the TNT crime dramedy "Claws."
In recent years, Nash has appeared in high-profile dramatic projects such as Ava Duvernay's "When They See Us," where her role as Delores Wise garnered further Emmy recognition and an NAACP Image Award. Additionally, she earned a Golden Globe nomination for her role in "Dahmer – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story." In 2024, she stars in Ryan Murphy's buddy cop drama "Grotesquerie."
When she is not acting, Nash-Betts hosts the Fox game show "Don’t Forget the Lyrics!"
Off-screen, she is a passionate advocate for LGBTQ+ rights and gun violence prevention, the latter inspired by personal tragedy. In she was honored Nash with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame to celebrate her career. In 2020, she made headlines for her marriage to musician Jessica Betts, a milestone she described as a personal revelation and a celebration of love.
