Nina M. Albert serves as the Commissioner of the Public Buildings Service at the General Services Administration (GSA). Appointed to the role by President Biden’s Administration, she leads the agency responsible for construction and maintenance of 370 million square feet portfolio nationwide. In this role, she controls workspace for 1.1 million federal employees and preserves more than 500 historic properties, the agency and its staff also serve as thought leaders in the areas of real estate, sustainability, economic development, workforce issues and more.
Albert brings 20 years of experience in public real estate strategy and disposition, public-private partnership negotiations, economic revitalization and sustainable development to GSA. She has served as Vice President of Real Estate and Parking at the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority where she managed a multi-billion dollar real estate portfolio. At the District Department of Environment she led design and development of a first-of-its-kind $250 million energy efficiency financing program targeting commercial and multi-family property owners and as Anacostia Waterfront Initiative Manager she oversaw a $1.3 billion redevelopment project (known now as The Wharf).
A visionary leader with a win/win negotiation style and a proven track record of innovation, sustainability and using public real estate to support communities and economic development, Albert prioritizes collaboration and courageous conversations, fosters a diverse culture of high performers and encourages growth mindset and creative ideas.
She holds a Masters of Business Administration and of City and Regional Planning from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Tufts University. A military veteran, Albert served in the U.S. Army as a first lieutenant and Company Executive Officer of the U.S. Army Signal Corps. She is a native Washingtonian, a foodie, and an avid traveler who seeks to discover new parts of the world any chance she gets.
