Nina Garcia
Editor-In-Chief of Elle Magazine, Judge on "Project Runway;" Alzheimer's Awareness & Prevention Advocate
Born in Barranquilla, Colombia, Nina Garcia is currently the Editor-In-Chief of Elle magazine. To many, she is known as the unerring, formidable fashion judge on the Peabody Award-winning hit show, "Project Runway."
Garcia is also the New York Times bestselling author of several books on style, including "The Little Black Book of Style," "The One Hundred," "The Style Strategy," and "Nina Garcia's Look Book."
Responsible for covering the designer fashion markets of New York, Milan, and Paris, Garcia is an elite authority on the industry and has cultivated an adoring fan-base of fashion “insiders” as well as those in the general market who flock to her appearances around the country.
She is the recipient of the 2010 Oracle Award from Fashion Group International (FGI). Garcia has worked as the creative director of Marie Claire and the fashion director at Elle. She has also previously held positions at both Mirabella and Perry Ellis.
A graduate of Boston University, as well as the famed Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT), Garcia has always credited her drive and success to her stylish parents for first showing her the potential of quality design and impeccable fashion.
Garcia is an advocate for awareness and prevention of Alzheimer's disease, which her mother battled for about eight years before passing away in 2004.
In February 2019, Garcia revealed in an Elle article that she would be having a preventative double mastectomy after discovering through genetic testing that she had a mutation to the BARD1 gene, which interacts with the BRCA1 gene.
