Noah Coburn  

Professor of Anthropology at Bennington College

Noah Coburn is a Professor of Anthropology at Bennington College. As a socio-cultural anthropologist, Coburn focuses on political structures and violence in the Middle East and Central Asia. He is one of the few contemporary anthropologists who has years of experience conducting on-the-ground field research in Afghanistan.

At Bennington, Coburn teaches classes about the overlap of politics, power, and culture. In addition to Afghanistan, he has conducted field research in Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Nepal, India, and Turkey. He is the author of three books, Derailing Democracy in Afghanistan: Elections in an Unstable Political Landscape, Losing Afghanistan: An Obituary for the Intervention, and Under Contract: The Invisible Workers of America's Global War.

Coburn received his B.A. from Williams College, his M.A. from Columbia University, and his doctorate from Boston University.
