Noah Oppenheim is the president of NBC News and is responsible for the network’s programming, editorial units, the division’s expanding digital properties and its bureaus around the world.
In his role, he oversees the network’s flagship multi-platform brands, TODAY, NBC Nightly News with Lester Holt, Meet the Press with Chuck Todd and Dateline NBC, as well as NBC News Digital, the network’s streaming services NBC News NOW and TODAY All Day, and NBC News Studios.
Oppenheim was named president in February 2017 after two years as executive in charge of TODAY. During this time, TODAY became the number one morning news broadcast in the key A25-54 demographic, winning the demo for 49 straight months.
Under his leadership, NBC News has deepened its pursuit of original journalism by doubling the size of its award-winning Investigative Unit, significantly expanding its Digital newsroom, and launching several specialized editorial units which focus on issues ranging from business & technology to climate and election security. Additionally, over a dozen regional reporters have been hired to live and report in communities around the country.
These original reporting units, along with the network’s Political Unit, regularly break exclusive stories on a wide range of topics that have included the government’s response to the Coronavirus pandemic, U.S. election security, the January 6 Capitol Hill attack, the Mueller investigation and 2016 Russian election interference, the #MeToo movement and USA Gymnastics scandal, medical device dangers, the U.S.-Mexico border and, most recently, the civil rights probe into Southlake, Texas schools.
In 2019, Oppenheim launched the streaming channel NBC News NOW and this past year added several new programs, delivering more live original hours than any other streaming news network. NBC News also became a top ten podcast publisher in 2021 with four original podcast series reaching #1 on Apple’s podcast chart, including Southlake and Mommy Doomsday.
In 2020, Oppenheim also launched NBC News Studios, a premium longform unit in the news division. With access to 80 years of archives, and strong relationships with premier filmmakers, Studios has already produced several projects that have screened at top film festivals.
Also a screenwriter, Oppenheim wrote the critically acclaimed film Jackie, which was awarded Best Screenplay at the 73rd Venice Film Festival. He also co-wrote The Maze Runner, launching a trilogy that has grossed nearly a billion dollars worldwide.
Oppenheim began his career in news, leading political talk shows such as Hardball with Chris Matthews and Scarborough Country. An Emmy-award winner and one of The Hollywood Reporter’s “Most Powerful People in Media,” he also helped create Mad Money with Jim Cramer. Previously, he reported on multiple presidential elections and from around the world, including from Iraq, Israel, Gaza, the West Bank, and Libya.
