Chef Nobuyuki “Nobu” Matsuhisa is a Japanese celebrity chef, restaurant owner, cookbook author, and television personality.

Chef Nobuyuki “Nobu” Matsuhisa is a Japanese celebrity chef, restaurant owner, cookbook author, and television personality. Chef Matsuhisa’s restaurants are prevalent all over the world; he has three Matsuhisa restaurants located in Aspen, Colorado, Beverly Hills, California, and Mykonos, Greece. His Beverly Hills restaurant attracted many A-List celebrities including Robert De Niro who eventually became Chef Matsuhisa’s partner, along with restaurateur titan Drew Nieporent, in opening a new chain of Nobu restaurants. Today, the partners own sixteen Nobu’s worldwide including locations such as London, Honolulu, Tokyo, Dubai, Hong Kong, Budapest, Milan, Moscow and even restaurants on two of Crystal Cruises cruise ships. The Elite Traveler World’s Top Restaurants Guide rated Nobu Los Angeles thirteenth in 2012. In 2013, Nobu Hotel Caesars Palace opened, making it the first celebrity-chef branded venture in Las Vegas.

Nobu’s relationship with actor De Niro introduced him to film as well. The chef has starred in such movies as Casino, directed by Martin Scorsese, Memoirs of a Geisha, and Austin Powers in Goldmember. Chef Nobu has also appeared on the small screen as well; in 2009 he appeared as a judge on Chef Gordon Ramsay’s Hell’s Kitchen which airs on FOX and on talk shows like ABC’s Live with Kelly and Michael.

Throughout his career, Chef Nobu Matsuhisa has written four cookbooks, Nobu West, Nobu Now, Nobu Miami: The Party Cookbook, and Nobu: The Cookbook which he co-wrote with Robert De Niro and contains a foreword by Celebrity chef Martha Stewart. His cookbooks have received rave reviews from fellow celebrity chefs Emeril Lagasse, Daniel Boulud, and Thomas Keller.

Among his endless achievements, Chef Nobu has been named Food & Wine Magazine’s 10 Best New Chefs in the United States, nominated by the James Beard Foundation as the Outstanding Chef in the United States for eight consecutive years, and induction into Who’s Who of Food and Beverage in America by the James Beard Foundation.
