Registered Nurse, Researcher, Educator, and Expert in Nursing Informatics and Healthcare Innovation

Olga Kagan, PhD, RN, FHIMSS, FAAAAI, FIEL is a nurse, scientist, educator, and entrepreneur whose work is deeply rooted in advancing healthcare technology, informatics and innovation to transform healthcare. She is the Founder and President of the Food Allergy Nursing Association (formerly FANI), where she leverages innovative technologies to cultivate an allergy-informed nursing workforce, support the development of new care models, and foster nurse-led research.

Dr. Kagan is a Fellow of the Health Information Management System Society (HIMSS), where she spearheaded the creation of the 5 Rights of AI for Healthcare and contributed significantly to expanding the AI & Innovation Toolkit through her work with the Innovation Advisory Workgroup and the Nursing Informatics Committee. She co-chairs the mHealth & Innovation HITE sub-committee at the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma & Immunology (AAAAI), where she is at the forefront of integrating technology into allergy and immunology care.

Her commitment to innovation extends to her leadership roles. As President-Elect of the Society of Nurse Scientists, Innovators, Entrepreneurs, and Leaders (SONSIEL), she founded and chaired the Research Committee for four years, driving the success of annual hackathons, pitch-a-thons, and the THInC innovation conferences. She is also an integral part of the launch team for the inaugural 2025 NurseHack4Health Tech-a-Thon at HIMSS, solidifying her role in empowering nurses as innovators in health technology.

Dr. Kagan works diligently to ensure health equity as Chair of the Nursing Section at the New York Academy of Medicine (NYAM), collaborating with the Informatics Workgroup and other sections. She led the development of the first AAAAI-funded Anaphylaxis Interactive Learning Guide, which she presented on the AAAAI podcast in 2024.

In addition to her work in informatics and innovation, Dr. Kagan educates nurses at two NY-based universities and mentors nurses through the American Nurses Association (ANA) mentorship program. She has consulted for and served on the boards of several start-ups and nonprofits. Dr. Kagan has been publishing peer-reviewed articles, contributing to textbooks, and serving as peer-reviewer for professional journals like JACI: Global, CIN, and Nursing Management. She has been featured on HIMSS TV, several podcasts and in print.

Dr. Kagan has received numerous accolades for her contributions to research, leadership, mentorship, and service, reflecting her dedication to shaping the future of healthcare.
