Owen O’Malley is a co-founder and technical fellow at Cloudera, a software company that incorporates Hadoop and other large databases to provide a software platform for data engineering, data warehousing, machine learning and analytics that runs in the cloud or on premises.

O'Malley has been working on Hadoop since the beginning of 2006 at Yahoo, as the first committer added to the project, and used Hadoop to set the Gray sort benchmark in 2008 and 2009. Previously, O'Malley was the architect of MapReduce, Security, and now Hive. He’s driving the development of the ORC file format and adding ACID transactions to Hive.

He recieved his undergraduate degree in math and computer science at UCLA, and his graduate and doctorate degrees in software engineering from UC Irvine.
