Owen Wilson, a comic actor renowned for his versatility in acting, writing, and producing, first made his mark alongside college roommate Wes Anderson with their debut film, "Bottle Rocket" (1996). This initial success paved the way for Wilson to secure roles in major films such as "The Cable Guy" directed by Ben Stiller. His career further expanded through roles in "Anaconda," "Armageddon," and "The Haunting." His major breakthrough came with the 2000 comedy action hit "Shanghai Noon," starring opposite Jackie Chan, which garnered nearly $100 million globally.
Wilson revisited the buddy comedy genre with "I Spy" (2002) co-starring Eddie Murphy, though it did not perform well at the box office. He found success again with "Shanghai Knights" (2003), the "Starsky & Hutch" movie remake (2004), and "Wedding Crashers" (2005) alongside Vince Vaughn, which was a substantial hit, earning over $200 million in the US.
In 2001, Wilson collaborated with Anderson on their third film, "The Royal Tenenbaums," which was both a financial and critical success. This film featured a stellar cast and earned Wilson and Anderson an Academy Award nomination for Best Original Screenplay. Wilson played the memorable role of Professor-turned-bestseller "Eli Cash."
Wilson's filmography includes a range of small, quirky comedies and major blockbuster films. He is considered a key member of the "Frat Pack," a group of comic actors known for their frequent collaborations. Wilson is notably the first member of this group to receive an Academy Award nomination.
His more recent roles include the voice of Lightning McQueen in "Cars 2" (2011), and a praised performance in "Midnight in Paris" (2011), a Woody Allen film that became the director’s biggest hit, earning Wilson a Golden Globe nomination for Best Actor - Musical or Comedy.
Wilson has appeared in ten movies with Ben Stiller, including notable titles such as "Meet the Parents" (2000), "Zoolander" (2001), and "Meet the Fockers" (2004), showcasing a dynamic and successful pairing in Hollywood.
