CEO of The Carter Center; Nonprofit Professional Advancing Global Peace, Human Rights & Health Care

Paige Alexander leads The Carter Center in its efforts to advance peace, human rights and health care across the globe through conflict resolution, election observation and disease eradication programs. Since joining the Center, Alexander has strengthened its core peace and health programs and led the organization in new directions, including adding programs to address: the global mental health crisis; political polarization in the US; and the impact of climate change on global peace and public health.

As CEO of The Carter Center, Alexander brings more than two decades of global development experience to head the nonprofit founded in 1982 by former US President Jimmy Carter and former First Lady Rosalynn Carter. The center has helped improve people’s lives in more than 80 countries by providing conflict resolution expertise, supporting democratic elections, protecting human rights, eradicating disease and helping build sustainable mental health care programs.

Before joining The Carter Center, Alexander held senior leadership positions at two regional bureaus of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), covering missions and development programs in 25 countries. She serves on the boards of the Romanian American Foundation and the World Affairs Council of Atlanta and as an advisory board member of several human rights organizations.
