As a badass Jamaican-born, Black queer woman with a discernment for seeing and elevating the leadership in others, Ford Lyn uses her mindful practices, consulting expertise and executive coaching skills to elevate other senior Black leaders breaking barriers of race and gender in their respective fields.

Ford Lyn work is rooted at the intersection of authenticity, audacity and accountability. Through creates a safe space for senior leaders to reflect and grow. As leaders of color, her clients are often faced with being one of the “first,” “only” or “few” Black executives as they navigate their own wellness and career ambitions. She guides them past their doubt into bold, life changing action.

Ford Lyn is also recognized for launching a new government agency within her home country, helping to transform youth development and coordinate national agencies and international donors. After holding her first executive leadership position, as the Director of the National Center for Youth Development, at the age of 25, Ford Lyn then returned to the US as a special advisor to the Executive Director at the Forum for Youth Investment, and then as a Director of Community Mobilization where she guided 26 cities in advancing their national effectiveness.

With decades of experience driving transformation at the organizational and individual levels, Patrice launched Catapult Change, a coaching and consulting company in 2010. As an executive coach, Ford Lyn works with senior executives across industries and sectors, working with executives from Wells Fargo, Coca-Cola, Ralph Lauren, Netflix, Johnson & Johnson, United Airlines, AARP, the Equality Fund and more.

Ford Lyns mindfulness extends past the professional realm. As a certified Yogi she practices mindfulness daily . An advocate for women’s health on both a mental and physical level, Ford Lyn is also a breast cancer survivor, and pulls from her personal experiences to help other women openly discuss body awareness, nervous system regulation and shifting from surviving to thriving in their 40s and beyond.

Personal Development as a Tool for Strengthening Your Leadership Abilities

There is a famous quote “Wherever we go, there we are.” by Jon Kabat-Zinn. It reminds us that whether we are in a business meeting, at home with family, playing sports with friends, or having a political debate with contemporaries, we bring ourselves to whatever arena we are in.

So, when CEOs and other executives focus on our personal growth, we don’t just become more thoughtful people; we become more thoughtful leaders. We are more insightful in the ways we manage our teams and more visionary in our ability to guide our organizations. Working on ourselves as leaders helps us show up more powerfully for those that we have the responsibility of guiding.

Managing Imposter Syndrome

Everyone else who says they feel like they have the imposter syndrome is an imposter. But you, you are really a fraud. Right? Keep thinking that and you will never achieve your greatness.

The impostor syndrome is a self-fulfilling belief where you doubt your own intelligence and talents. It often comes up at times that others might associate with success and happiness: getting a promotion, starting your own business, or having a child. When experiencing imposter syndrome, you’re so certain that you aren’t good at something that you think that anyone who says otherwise is either being very optimistic, slightly delusional, or dishonest.

In this presentation we will explore how you identify whether or not you are suffering from imposter syndrome and the ways you can overcome it. Feeling like a fraud can happen in a minute but it can take valuable time and real support to work your way out of those thoughts. If you don't take the time, you're likely to self sabotage and play small - developing a negative cycle of fear, doubt and shame. You don't have to keep feeling like a fraud. You can be both great and a work in progress.

Rest - Recipe for Increased Performance and Productivity

What I'm hearing is we don’t actually know what the soft life is or what it feels like, even if we’re saying we do. Hear me out. We’ve been taking soft breaks, not living a soft life. It’s actually a cycle: We work ourselves to exhaustion, take a break, a quick vacation, dinner with friends and then get right back on the expressway to exhaustion. There is a shadow side to our drive for excellence.

How do we slow down without feeling that we’re dropping the ball, being irresponsible or seen as less capable? Often, we aren’t even aware that this is the fear behind the ways we push ourselves beyond our limits. When asked, friends and colleagues are more likely to say they don't slow down because they have too much on their plate.

What folks tend to forget is that each minute isn’t the same. The quality of our time changes based on how rested we are. A task that takes me two hours to complete can be done in 15 mins with the right focus and clarity. Have you noticed this?
