Founder & Executive Chairman of African Rainbow Minerals; Founder of the Motsepe Foundation

Dr. Patrice Motsepe is a globally respected business leader, entrepreneur and philanthropist. He is also the owner of the Mamelodi Sundowns soccer club and since March 2021, President of the Confederation of African Football.

Motsepe began his career in law, becoming a partner at Bowmans, one of Africa's largest law firms, and later serving as a visiting attorney in the United States with McGuireWoods. In 1994, he founded Future Mining, providing contract mining services, and three years later, established African Rainbow Minerals, which grew into a leading mining and minerals company in South Africa. His business ventures expanded to include significant investments in financial services, renewable energy, and technology.

A dedicated philanthropist, Motsepe and his wife, Dr. Precious Moloi-Motsepe, joined the Giving Pledge in January 2013, committing to give half of their wealth to philanthropic causes during their lifetime and beyond. Through the Motsepe Foundation, they support initiatives in education, health, and economic development, significantly impacting communities across Africa.

In 2002, Motsepe was named South Africa’s Business Leader of the Year and won the Ernst & Young Best Entrepreneur of the Year Award. In 2017, Forbes Magazine honored him as one of the "100 Greatest Living Business Minds" alongside Bill Gates, Warren Buffet, and Jeff Bezos. He has received several honorary doctorates for his contributions to business and philanthropy.

Born in South Africa, Dr. Patrice Motsepe pursued a Bachelor of Arts degree at the University of Swaziland and later obtained a law degree from the University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg.
