Patricia Calhoun

Editor westword

Patricia Calhoun, 56, editor of the alternative weekly Westword, is a Denver fixture as durable as the U.S. Mint. Born in Chicago, schooled at Cornell, she began bleeding ink after graduation by starting The SandPaper, a weekly in Long Beach Island, N.J. After a year, she decided to do the same thing in Denver, having enjoyed the slopes and the folks here. She blew into town in 1976. Westword debuted in September 1977 and has been causing trouble ever since. Its biggest annual edition, the Best of Denver, hits stands Wednesday. She's lived in Highland for 15 years. She orders a Corona with a lime wedge.
